NC Pork Council congratulates Chad Herring on appointment to National Pork Board
The North Carolina Pork Council congratulates Duplin County pork producer Chad Herring on his appointment to the National Pork Board by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins. He was one of five pork producers appointed to the board this year.
Herring, a third-generation pork producer from Mount Olive, manages Herring Pork Producers, a family farming operation that raises nursery pigs in eastern North Carolina. In addition to his work on the farm, he serves as executive director of NC Farm Families, a grassroots organization dedicated to connecting consumers with agriculture and supporting North Carolina farm families.
The National Pork Board is responsible for administering the Pork Checkoff program and directing investments in research, promotion and education programs that benefit pork producers across the United States. The 15-member board is composed of producers from across the country who oversee the strategic direction of the Pork Checkoff.
"Chad represents the very best of North Carolina agriculture," said Roy Lee Lindsey, CEO of the North Carolina Pork Council. "He is a dedicated farmer, a respected leader and a tireless advocate for our industry. Whether he's caring for pigs on his family farm, opening his farm to visitors or helping tell agriculture's story through NC Farm Families, Chad brings credibility, integrity and a deep commitment to serving others. North Carolina pork producers are proud to see him take on this important national leadership role."
A graduate of the Pork Leadership Institute, Herring has been actively involved in industry leadership and consumer outreach efforts for many years. Through NC Farm Families, he has helped build understanding between farmers and consumers while serving as a voice for family farms across the state. He has also hosted numerous farm tours and educational events to help the public better understand modern food production.
"I've had the opportunity to work alongside Chad for many years and have seen firsthand his dedication to this industry," Lindsey said. "He understands both the opportunities and challenges facing today's pork producers because he lives them every day. His perspective will be valuable as the National Pork Board works to strengthen demand for pork, support producers and invest in the future of our industry."
Herring's appointment continues North Carolina's strong tradition of leadership at the national level. He succeeds fellow North Carolina producer Santiago Vazquez, whose service on the National Pork Board concludes this year.
North Carolina is the third-largest pork producer in the nation, supporting more than 42,000 jobs and generating more than $10 billion in annual economic activity. The state's pork producers play a vital role in feeding families, strengthening rural communities and supporting North Carolina agriculture.
