Pork is a Party!

We are excited to participate in the Got to be NC Commodity Challenge with Family and Consumer Sciences!

Everyone needs a go-to recipe that they can use that impresses guests every time. Whether it’s a special date, a get together with friends or a graduation party for family, pork is the meat that checks all the boxes:

    ✔ Affordable
    ✔ Delicious
    ✔ Nutritious
    ✔ Feeds a crowd

We know, pork can be intimidating. But it doesn’t have to be. Delicious pork is never over cooked. According to USDA, pork is perfectly safe to be eaten at 145 degrees. It will still be a little pink and that’s when it’s most tender, juicy and flavorful.

The challenge

The first 25 students to meet the requirements of the challenge will receive a Pork Javelin thermometer.

Learn a new special occasion recipe that will feed at least 6. We’ve given some samples below, but feel free to explore other sources for inspiration. Part of the challenge is to select a recipe and determine your number of servings and cost per serving for your dish. Click here to learn about the different cuts, basic how-tos, and a click to more recipes. NOTE: A serving of protein is generally considered to be 3 ounces.

Post a photo or video of your finished product along with the number of servings and cost per servings by Sunday, May 31, 2020. Bonus if you stage your photo to look like you’re celebrating a special occasion.

The first 25 students to post and meet all the requirements (photo, #of servings, cost per servings and social tags) will receive a pork-branded Javelin thermometer. The post with the most engagement will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.
