who do the work
North Carolina is the second-largest pork-producing state in the country. Behind that ranking is a workforce of more than 46,000 people across more than 2,100 permitted farms — sow managers, nursery caretakers, herd technicians, researchers, and farm hands.
People Behind Pork is our way of putting names and faces to that work. Each month, we spotlight one farm employee who exemplifies what makes the NC pork industry one of the best in the nation.
- Boots on the ground. Farm employees, not just owners. Anyone whose daily work raises NC pigs.
- Any operation. Independent family farms, integrators, contract growers, university units, research operations.
- Nominated by peers. Most features come from coworker, supervisor, or industry partner nominations. Email caitlyn@ncpork.org.
