Dr. Emily Mahan Riggs is a veterinarian for Smithfield Hog Production. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a doctorate from NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine specializing in swine veterinary medicine. In vet school, Emily spent many of her holiday and summer breaks shadowing swine veterinarians and working on projects that have made impacts in production systems and the pork industry. Dr. Riggs co-authored a textbook chapter on seasonal infertility and an article on lameness. At the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) conference, she presented her work and recorded a podcast earning her the position of student delegate for the AASV Board of Directors. Dr. Riggs is active in the AASV as the Early Career Committee co-chair and the AASV Foundation Auction committee. Outside of work, Emily volunteers with her church and enjoys spending time with her husband, their two daughters, Clara and Lydia, and their 11-year-old lab mix Sookie.
