Producer Profile Timmy Thomas Thomas Farm Pork
Timmy Thomas and his brother, Jimmy, co-own Thomas Farms Pork, a 240 sow farrow (birth) to finish (market) swine operation that produces 4,000 pigs each year. They purchased the farm, located in Timberlake, N.C., in 1994. They also currently raise tobacco, corn, wheat, and soybeans on approximately 2,000 acres.
From 1986 to 1994 Timmy and his brother also co-owned Thomas Farms in Timberlake, a swine operation that finished 1,800 hogs for market each year.
Timmy has been a member of the North Carolina Pork Council (NCPC) since 1986 and is currently serving his second term on the NCPC Board of Directors. He is a lifetime member of the North Carolina Soybean Association and in 2002 was recognized by the association with its Outstanding Young Leader Award. Timmy has served on the Person County Farm Bureau Board of Directors since 1990.
In 2000, Timmy received the Excellence in Tobacco Production award by Philip Morris. The North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation District awarded Timmy and his family the North Carolina Farm Family of the Year Award in 1993.
Timmy earned an Associate of Science degree in livestock management from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, in 1986. He grew up on his parents farm in Timberlake, where they ran a 200 sow farrow to finish swine operation and raised corn, wheat, and soybeans.
Timmy and his 16-year-old son, Hunter, live in Timberlake where Timmy is active in the Mount Harmony Baptist Church.
