James Lamb - A farmer since childhood
It's more than just a job for this young farmer in Sampson County; it's a passion for the pork industry and agriculture as a whole and a love for his family and community that shines through after spending just a few minutes with James Lamb. He's better known as "Cookie" to many friends, family and colleagues in Clinton, NC. His father gave him that nickname when he was just a baby. Channing Gooden – C&D Brooder Farm
Channing, along with his father, David Gooden, owns C&D Brooder Farm, a two house brooder farm and Bennett Place Nursery, a four house pig nursery, both contracted with Prestage Farms. On their 300 acre farm, there are: 16 - 735 finishing houses, 4 - 1620 nurseries, 2 brooder houses, and 150-175 brood cows. Read More


Everett Johnson – Cundiff Creek Farms
Everett Johnson and his wife, Annette, are partners in Cundiff Creek Farms, LLC in Siloam, NC. Cundiff Creek Farms is a gilt/replacement finishing operation with L&H Farms. They are partners with Everett’s brother, Mike Johnson.

Following in the footsteps of their uncle, Don Hardy, the Johnsons bought his swine farm in 1985 and contracted with South Deep Creek Farms of Yadkinville to reopen it as a farrowing and feeder pig swine operation. They ran that operation until 1993. Then, in 1996, the Johnsons built Cundiff Creek Farms and are still under contract with L&H Farms. Read More


Tommy and Vicky Porter– Porter Farms
Tommy and Vicky Porter own Porter Farms, a 2200 sow, farrow to wean operation in Concord, NC. They have been raising hogs since 1992. In 1999 the Porter family was honored as the North Carolina Conservation Farm Family of the Year. Tommy and Vicky work very hard to spread the word about preserving farmland in Cabarrus county as well as across the state.Read More


Timmy Thomas– Thomas Farm Pork
Timmy Thomas and his brother, Jimmy, co-own Thomas Farms Pork, a 240 sow farrow (birth) to finish (market) swine operation that produces 4,000 pigs each year. They purchased the farm, located in Timberlake, N.C., in 1994. They also currently raise tobacco, corn, wheat, and soybeans on approximately 2,000 acres.Read More


Scott Bockenstedt
Scott is employed by Murphy-Brown’s Rose Hill Division in Rose Hill, N.C. where he oversees all company-owned and managed sow farms along with 15 contract farms. Scott is responsible for managing all cost-related phases of sow production at the farms, including labor and facility upkeep. Read More

In the early 1990s, with stiffening regulations and heated political pressure and misguided perceptions, integrators recognized the need to have environmental specialists representing their companies. Tim and Wendy Craig Stand Their Ground
For years, Tim and Wendy Craig had grown corn silage for a large stocker operation. Tim had farmed cattle and various crops with his family and also was part of the 60 year-old family grading business. An extremely dry year in 1993 led to the Craig’s interest in the hog business. “If it had not been for the river-bottom land we rent from my father, we would have come up short on our silage.” explains Tim. “That’s when we began thinking about hog effluent as an alternative to irrigate and fertilize the silage crop.” Read More

Pitt County resident Miriam Lewis has been a pork producer for over 20 years. She and her family own a nursery and finishing operation on contract with Premium Standard Farms. They also raise tobacco, peanuts and cattle". Read More

Michael Inman
Michael Inman of Bladenboro has been involved in pork production all his life. He was reared on a farm in Bladen County where his family grew hogs and grain. After attending UNC-Pembroke, Michael continued to work on the family farm until he joined Prestage Farms in 1991. Read More
