Producer ProfileEverett Johnson Cundiff Creek Farms Everett Johnson and his wife, Annette, are partners in Cundiff Creek Farms, LLC in Siloam, NC. Cundiff Creek Farms is a gilt/replacement finishing operation with L&H Farms. They are partners with Everetts brother, Mike Johnson.
Following in the footsteps of their uncle, Don Hardy, the Johnsons bought his swine farm in 1985 and contracted with South Deep Creek Farms of Yadkinville to reopen it as a farrowing and feeder pig swine operation. They ran that operation until 1993. Then, in 1996, the Johnsons built Cundiff Creek Farms and are still under contract with L&H Farms.
In addition to the permitted 7,650 swine operation, the Johnsons also have a 200 head cow/calf herd and maintain approximately 200 acres of hay and 200 acres of grain.
Everett says that as a producer the greatest challenges he faces are rising operating costs such as utilities, fuel and repairs over which producers have somewhat limited control He believes these rising costs along with the low market hog prices are placing many producers in a bind.
Everett is a vice president with First Bank Ag Credit in Wytheville, VA. In addition to wrapping up his second term on the NC Pork Council board of directors, Everett is vice president of the NC Cattlemens Association and serves on the Surry County Cattlemens board of directors. Everett and Annette live in Siloam, NC with their daughter, Sarah, a freshman at East Surry High School. They are members of Siloam Baptist Church.
Everett tells us his favorite barbecue restaurant is Smithfields. As for his favorite pork dish, its barbecue ribs or any other way his wife cooks it. Good answer, Everett!
