Neese Family Awarded for Its Service

For the first time, the Lois G. Britt Service Award was presented to a family instead of an individual. Dr. Todd See, NC Pork Conference committee chair and past award winner, presented the 2009 award to the Neese family.

The Neese family has provided great support to the pork industry through the North Carolina Pork Council. They have long supported the Council through service on the board of directors and committees, providing sponsorships and donations for industry events, and just generally always saying "yes" when help is asked of them.

Neese's truly is a family tradition with the business being run today by the fourth generation of Neeses and with plenty of kids coming along to continue the family business. We are thankful their service to NCPC has become a family tradition too.

One of the Neese's traditions, which has become a favorite of conference attendees, are the sausage and ham biscuits the Neeses provide for breakfast each morning. The Neeses have long supported the NC Pork Conference and Tradeshow and the presence of Mr. Clarence and Miss Helen Oliver handing out all of the fabulous Neese products is a staple to which all attendees have come to look forward.

The Neese family has served the pork industry and NCPC for two generations now. Tom Neese, Sr. served on the board of the North Carolina Pork Council for more than 10 years representing the North Carolina Meat Processors Association. Tom's service on the board was invaluable. He served as a voice of reason and was highly respected for his leadership during time of changes in the industry and the Council.

Today, Tommy Neese, following in his father's footsteps, is serving his sixth year on the NCPC board.

Tom, Tommy and Andrea Neese have also supported NCPC through their service on committees such as the conference and tradeshow, fundraising, promotions & marketing and budget committees.

In addition to all of that, they have generously supported NCPC's promotions through the donation of product and resources at many, many events. Some examples include:
* The Other White Meat Tour at the NC State vs. ECU football game
* NCPC Lobby Day at the North Carolina General Assembly, and
* at the annual conference.

In addition, the Neeses make it possible for NCPC to run the Pork Chop Shop at the State Fair each year by the donating the use of one of their refrigerated trucks. That means they take a truck out of their fleet for almost two weeks each October for NCPC to be able to have a place to store meat and other products for the Pork Chop Shop.

The Neeses are also strong supporters of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's Got to be NC! campaign promoting North Carolina products wherever they go.

The North Carolina Pork Council established the Lois G. Britt Service Award in Lois' memory to recognize those, like Lois, for whom service to the pork industry and North Carolina agriculture is a passion. Lois Britt devoted her life to agriculture, education and service of those people, organizations and institutions in which she believed in, and there were many. The officers of NCPC serve as the nominating and selection committee for this honor.

The Neeses were honored with the 2009 Lois G. Britt Service Award in appreciation of their generous and dedicated service to the pork industry of North Carolina.
