The North Carolina Pork Council has pledged $100,000 to Mount Olive College over a five year period. The money will be used to establish an endowed scholarship at the College in memory of Lois G. Britt.
“I am pleased that our board of directors has chosen to acknowledge Lois’ leadership and her passion for education and agribusiness with this scholarship,” said Deborah Johnson, chief executive officer of the NC Pork Council. “As each month goes by, our appreciation grows deeper for Lois and the way she helped develop people. It is our hope this scholarship will serve as way to honor the life she lived and will encourage others to follow her example.”
Britt’s exemplary career in agribusiness included serving the pork industry as vice president of Murphy Family Farms and as special assistant to the president of Murphy-Brown, LLC. During her career, she was the recipient of many honors and awards including the North Carolina Pork Council Hall of Fame Award.
“The decision of the NC Pork Council board of directors to establish an endowed scholarship at Mount Olive College to honor the memory of Lois G. Britt, their colleague and friend, is a fitting tribute,” stated Chris Wood, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Mount Olive College. “MOC Agribusiness students for decades to come will benefit from the philanthropy of this worthwhile organization. We are so grateful to receive this gift that serves as a living legacy of Lois’ life.”
The Lois G. Britt Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship opportunities for worthy and qualified students from North Carolina who are pursuing majors in AgriScience, AgriIndustry or Agribusiness. For more information, contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 919-658-2502.
