Greg Stephens – 2008 Outstanding Pork Producer

The 2008 “Outstanding Pork Producer” is Greg Stephens. The winner is chosen based on their contributions to the pork industry through management and leadership. It is presented to a producer who is over 40 years old.

Greg Stephens is a native of Lakeland, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida and then worked the next 11 years in various departments on several different hog farms.

Greg lives in Sampson County now. He began his career with Prestage farms in 1991. In 1999, Greg was named manager of the finishing department for Prestage and continues in that role today – overseeing the finishing of more than 1, 700,000 hogs per year.

While employed by Prestage Farms, Greg purchased his own finishing farm in 1994. He marketed more than 12,000 hogs annually until he sold it in 2006.

Greg and his wife Kathy have two sons, Zach and Adam who are both attending North Carolina colleges.

Greg has been a strong supporter of the pork industry beginning with his education in animal science, through his hands on farming and in his many years of employment in pork production. He is certainly an outstanding pork producer.
